You have the most enviable job as a celebrity makeup artist - what’s your favorite part about it? Best perks?

The best part about my job is constantly meeting new and creative people that inspire me and teach me new things. I’ve been able to see the world and done some incredible things with clients and that has been such a gift for me.

Can you tell us about any memorable experiences you've had while working with your celebrity clients, and how these experiences have influenced your career and personal life?

When I was working with Miley Cyrus, we got to go to some really gorgeous places, meet really cool people and perform at some of the biggest venues in the world. I grew so much as a person being able to be so involved in such rare opportunities. I evolved mentally and creatively from every experience.

How has social media affected your business?

Social Media has been such a game changer for this business. When I started doing Makeup 23 years ago, we had to mail a leather portfolio to try to get a job. Social Media has made it much easier to view and post our work, but it has also created a much larger pool of artists. It has absolutely changed the styles of make up, but it has also taken the beauty of being hired for your work, not how many followers or views you have.

What were you doing before you were a makeup artist?

I started doing Makeup when I was 16 years old. I worked as a receptionist at an Aveda salon and did make up demos on clients. Truly, makeup is all I know.

If you weren’t a makeup artist, what would you be?

I often think about that… I’ve always been interested in the medical field, but school was never my thing. I love to be creative… Interior design is also something I’ve always loved doing.

What recommendation would you give to anyone looking to enter the celebrity beauty space?

My advice is to stay confident and believe in your art. There is a reason you chose this path. In the start of my career, I never said no to jobs because I never knew where an opportunity would lead me. Meeting people and learning how to have the proper etiquette on and off set are all part of our job, not just the Makeup. That goes with any career.

What are some of the top makeup products or techniques that you believe are essential for anyone, whether they are a celebrity or a parent on the go?

I think that knowing your skin is the first step to enjoying your skin. Learning what products work for you and your skin type will help cater the products that you use for Makeup. Skin care is truly the base to your canvas, nurture and love it. Find a tinted moisturizer that you can wear daily, a great mascara, and a cream blush for your lips and cheeks, and call it a day.

Balancing work and family life is a common challenge for many parents. Can you share any tips or strategies that have helped you maintain a sense of equilibrium in your career and family life?

I don’t know if I’ll ever find an equal balance to work life and Mom life. But I do know that if I don’t work and allow my creativeness to come out, I can’t be the best version of myself. So I make sure to prioritize the jobs that are important, in between my kids and what they need daily.

What are your must-have self care essentials?

I make sure to work out twice a week, see my chiropractor once a week and do one thing for myself. I keep a very strict regiment of my skin care for morning and night, and I love a very hot shower.

What 5 makeup products do you have in your work bag at all times? What about your personal bag?

My top 5 products in my makeup bag are Saie Mascara 101, MAC Rubywoo lipstick, KJH Brand Hyper Shine highlight, Lancôme Artliner liquid eyeliner , Refy Brow Sculpt.

My kit has to have Melt Onyx ultra matte gel liner, Chanel Les Beiges Tan bronzer, Rhode Lip Peptide, Charlotte Tilbury lipliner in Iconic Nude.

Favorite day & night moisturizers?

Biba De Sousa Los Angeles is my holy grail of all skin care. The Onerta Cream Barrier is truly the best face cream ever made.. I can’t praise this product more. It’s my night cream, but I also use it daytime if I’m feeling extra dry. Biba’s daily moisturizer is my go to for a light day time moisture.

Skin care routine? (What products do you use religiously?)

I use the Biba De Sousa Los Angeles Daily Cleanser, toner, plant stem cell serum, eye cream and moisturizer.

Favorite trends you are loving?

I’m really enjoying a baggy shirt with comfortable pants, a pair of Converse with really Dewey skin and a fluffy eyebrow.

Go-to baby gift?

I preferred to give more personalized gifts, so Etsy is my favorite place to order, unique and interesting gifts. But also who doesn’t love cozy sets from Little Sleepies

What's your favorite pastime when you aren’t working or momming?

Any opportunity for a spa day is my favorite day.
